BASE ACCESS: Your Base Pass gives you access to the Base and the Air Station. Keep it in your vehicle or with you at all times. Every person that comes on base that is 18 or older, need to show their Base Pass for entry or be a DoD cardholder.

CONTACT: If you need me, email me at lejeunealumni@gmail.com. It goes straight to my phone and I will have my phone on me throughout the reunion.

SCHEDULE: The Schedule of Events has been updated. Please visit the link, download the schedule, bookmark it, and print it out for future reference.

DRESS CODE: Everyone keeps asking me what the dress code is for the reunion. The dress code is Smart Casual – light, comfortable clothing that wears well in hot, humid weather. For women, a sundress, or shirt with capris or slacks. For men, a fitted T-shirt or button-down with tailored shorts or slacks and a belt. All venues are air-conditioned, but you may want to go outside so keep that in mind. Note: If you're cold-natured, you may want to bring a sweater – just in case. If you're hot-natured, you may want to stick a hand fan in your bag.

NAME TAGS: You must wear your name tag to your Decade Party and the All-Class Reunion or you risk being delayed at the door.

ONSLOW BEACH: You can go wherever you want on Onslow Beach. I just thought that Starfish Point (formerly the Officers’ Beach) was a good starting point. Lifeguards are on duty from 9AM-6PM. Sadly, Hurricane Florence wiped out most of the familiar structures on Onslow Beach. The Base has slowly rebuilt it, maintaining its natural beauty. The Marine Mart has been alerted to our arrival, so they will be stocked up with beach supplies, souvenirs, and snacks. No glass containers are allowed on the beach, and there are no rentals (beach chairs, umbrellas, boogie boards, etc). If you want to purchase those things, I would stop by Walmart and pick them up. If you don’t want to take them home with you, consider donating them to Finders Keepers Thrift Store, a program of Onslow Victims Center.

DRIVING ON BASE: The speed limit is 15 MPH coming into all gates! Don’t risk getting pulled over. Pay attention to the speed limits on Base. REMINDER: If you are driving a rental, keep your rental agreement in the rental at all times. Also, if you are driving your own vehicle, make sure you have your registration and insurance in the car.

PARKING: Parking is limited at Marston so if you can ride together or take a cab, it is highly encouraged. Please have a Designated Driver if you plan on drinking at the reunion, or call one of the TAXI COMPANIES authorized to come on base.

WHERE TO EAT: There are a lot of places to eat in Onslow County. My family eats out a lot and my recommendations are based on their experiences. These are just recommendations for those who are overwhelmed with the sheer volume of places to eat in the area.

BASE EXCHANGE PRIVILEGES LETTER: The base has issued an Exchange Privileges Letter giving us “limited” exchange privileges to purchase souvenirs like Camp Lejeune T-shirts and memorabilia, food, drinks, and snacks at the Exchange, or any of the convenience stores on base. RESTRICTIONS: You will not be able to shop at the Commissary, the Package Store (alcohol and cigarettes), or purchase any uniform items (medals, clothing, etc.), or any large items like furniture or electronics. We are limited to mementos and snacks.

FACILITIES ON BASE: You can go to the bowling alley and golf course and rent equipment that you may need at those facilities. You can also participate in Chapel Services. You CANNOT go to the Fitness Centers or pools, or rent a boat from the Marina, and the stables are now private.

WHAT IS NEW ON BASE: There are no longer any ranked clubs. The only club on base is The Club at Paradise Point (formerly the O’Club). It features an All-Hands Lunch Buffet Mon-Fri, from 11AM-1PM; the Follow Me Bar, open Wed-Thu from 4:30 PM-until; Wooden Nickel Restaurant & Bar, featuring a wide range of cuisines and drinks, open Wed & Thu 4:30 PM-8PM, and Fri 4:30 PM-9PM. Closed Sat-Tue. The old Officers’ Club on the Air Station if now called The Landing at New River. The address is 710 Flounder Rd. They will be open Thu-Fri, July 10-11, from 11AM-1PM for an A La Carte Lunch.

WHAT IS GONE: Sadly, Hurricane Florence wiped out most of the familiar structures on Onslow Beach, and severely compromised several homes on the Base. On the Air Station, the pools, bowling alley, the old Officer’s Quarters, and Delalio Elementary no longer exist. The Marina is still there, fortunately.

USE YOUR GPS: [MAP OF CAMP LEJEUNE] Though the basic layout of the Base and New River Air Station is still the same, a lot has changed. The Visitor Center is located in building TT-13 at the Wilson Gate. It is open Mon-Fri from 5AM-9PM and is closed on weekends and holidays. Just use your GPS to maneuver through Jacksonville and Camp Lejeune if it’s been a while since you’ve been here. Be sure to bring a car charger for your phone.

BRICK MEMORIAL: What used to be Camp Lejeune High School #1, Brewster Junior High, and Russell Elementary has been torn down. Bill Kasten (class of 1974) was kind enough to grab about 45 bricks from the wreckage. I have put Bill in charge of constructing a memorial at the new high school, using those bricks, honoring Camp Lejeune High School #1. This is a gift to the school from the Lejeune High School Alumni Association.
