Hello Fellow Devilpups!

I can’t believe that the reunion is less than two weeks away! We are planning a great event and know that you will not be disappointed. Right now, I wanted to try and answer a few questions that have come up since we last communicated. Because the security level aboard the base is currently at FPCON Bravo, everyone boarding the base must show a photo ID – even military personnel. This has changed the way you used to board the base. Below we go over some of the questions you may have:

BASE PASSES

In the letter we are sending, you will receive a Base Pass for every person that you registered. It is a Special Event pass that is good from Thursday, July 9 through Sunday, July 12. This pass is not transferable and you must present a Photo ID along with this pass to be allowed on base. The Base Pass allows you access through the gates at Camp Lejeune, Midway Park, Knox Cove, Tarawa Terrace and New River Air Station.

  • If you are driving, place this on the left corner of your dashboard. It doesn’t matter which vehicle you drive. As long as you have a Base Pass and a driver’s license, you will be okay.
  • If you are taking a taxi or public transportation, you and your guests must present this pass along with your Photo ID at the gate.
  • If you forget your Base Pass, you will need to ride with someone who has one. As long as the driver has a Base Pass, he/she can vouch for other passengers in the vehicle – as long as they have a photo ID.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What should I wear?  We recommend casual chic. Bear in mind that it is July in the South so it will be hot. The forecast predicts some cool nights, so pack a light sweater and an umbrella for the occasional summer shower. You might want to throw in a pair of ear plugs while you’re at it, just in case. We have a live band and if it’s been awhile since you heard one, it might be a good idea.

When will I receive my reunion tickets? Because you paid in advance, your name will be on a list at the door. There are no physical tickets. You will receive a NAME TAG when you pick up your registration packet. That will be your ticket to the reunion and other activities.

Where do I pick up my registration packet? You will pick up your registration packet at the current Lejeune High School located at 835 Stone Street at Camp Lejeune. on Friday from 10AM and 6PM.

What if I can’t pick up my registration packet on Friday? If you will be coming in on Saturday or after 6PM on Friday, you will have to pick up your registration packet at the Reunion on Saturday. Make sure you bring a photo ID. If you are a participant in the Golf Tournament, you can pick up your packets at the tournament.

What is in my registration packet? Your registration packet will contain your NAME TAG (which gives you access to all events) an updated schedule, maps and information from the Tourism Bureau. You will also receive a special gift from us.

Will I be able to go to the Exchange? The base is no longer allowing us to grant exchange privileges to people without base privileges.

Will I be able to take a tour of my old high school? We are still finalizing that, but I am confident that you will be able to visit the high school you attended. However, because of the security issues aboard the base, we are still waiting to find out if they have to be supervised tours or if they can be self-guided tours.

Is there any way I can see who is coming to the reunion? Yes! We keep a current running list of who is attending at www.lejeunealumni.com/who-is-attending-the-all-class-reunion. If you do not have internet access, get someone to print out a list for you or go to your local library and see if they can access it for you.

What if I want to come before Thursday and go to Onslow Beach? We have been trying to get that worked out. Right now we are trying to match people who have base privileges with people who need sponsorship. To date, we have no sponsors. If you have base privileges and are willing to sponsor fellow alumni so they can go to the beach before the reunion, please contact Joni Hixon-Fontes at 757.404.8361 or email her at Fonhix@gmail.com.

Will I be able to go to Onslow Beach during the reunion?  Yes. Your base pass will give you access to the beach Thursday thru Sunday. On Saturday, you will have access to The Starfish Point Seashells from 10AM - 3:30PM, as well as the air-conditioned conference room at the Starfish Point Pavilion. Each seashell is complete with picnic table, dressing room, and shower. Starfish Point is located where the Officers’ Beach used to be (take a left when you come off the bridge).

I’m flying in, is there anywhere I can rent a beach chair and/or an umbrella for the beach? If you or someone in your group has base privileges, you can rent them from the Crab Shack at the beach. Cost is $10 for an umbrella and $5 for a beach chair. You can pick up a beach towel and a cooler at Walmart.

If we don’t want to go to the beach, is there anything else we can do before the reunion? If you love to shop or eat, Jacksonville has it all! We also have a winery, and some very nice memorials that you can visit. We are currently working with the Tourism Bureau to put together some self-guided tours.

What if I want to do something more adventurous? I am compiling a list of activities that you may enjoy – scuba diving, kayaking, surfing, windsurfing, jet skiing. If you want to see what is a available, visit www.insiderinfo.us. It lists what is available by area.

Are you selling any T-shirts this year?  We will be taking orders for Reunion T-shirts (you will receive the order form in the mail). You can also order and pay online (not available yet).

What happens if something comes up and I can’t come? Refund requests must be received in writing via email to reunion2015@ec.rr.com no later than June 25, 2015. If received prior to June 25, we will refund 50% of what you paid. No refunds will be given after that time, and phone requests will not be accepted. We understand that unforeseen situations arise for everyone. Unfortunately, we are not able to make exceptions for any reason, because we have already finished the work and paid for you two weeks prior to the reunion.

Well, I hope that answers most of your important questions. I really look forward to seeing each and every one of you.

Safe travels ... See you in July!
